two seperate companies sharing then same email address
hi
we have a situatioin were our company want to split and run as seperate entities, at the moment we run two exchane servers we recive the email into site 1 and that is flowed to site 2 via vpn.....
It has been agred at the board level.. that both individual compianes will keep the same email doman but the exchange servers will not be linked in any way....the problem i see, will be creating accounts of the same name will create two identical
email address and if a user a site 1 wants to send and email to a user in site 2 the email will be seen as a internal email and no be routed out to the internet ...even if it did it would just come back in....is there any way to use one email domain without
connecting the AD and exchange to sync changes and route emails.
thanks any answers would help

Hi
You can't have same emailaddress on two accounts/mailboxes, but you can share smtp domain on two sites and two servers
That's setup in the accepted domain setting and needs to be set to internal relay if they are in the same mail organization

thanks for the repy ..
if the servers are not linked in any way ..they are sharing a email address but will be seperate domains not in a forest...i.m not sure what you mean by setting it to internal relay ....if a user on site 1 wants to send a email to a user on site b ...if
it set to interal it wouldnt go out ...server a would not recognize the address and create a postmaster delivery failure...would accepted domain setting realise its not local and try to send it out ?
thanks again...what i in trying to put forward to make thing easy is to craate a vpn and trusted domin but some are reluctant to share any data whatsoever..

Hi,
You can't use the same E-mail domain in two seperate companies if they are totally split up on the IT. Entity A can have domain1.com and Entity B can have domain2.com then you can have regular mailflow between the entities.
If both entities are still going to have domain1.com as E-mail domain they need to be in the same Exchange organization for it to work. The reason of course is when you create MX records you need to point the at the server that is suppose to receive mails
for domain, and then all mails will go through that server.
