unable to mount exchange 2007 storage group, mapiexception disk full
hi folks, i have an exchange 2007 storage group on a volume, this volume has become full, and wont mount, the log files are on a seperate volume, which is is not full... am i correct in thinking that i need space equal to the storage group size, to do any sort of maintenance on the storage group such as check, defrag etc.. i dont have space anywhere to move this storage group as its 270 GB in size.... any suggestions? cheers EDIT: plan is to move the storage group to a usb drive, with more space, and then move the biggest mailboxes off it, to a storage group with more space... any recommendations welcome thanks

is it a storage group or a Mailbox or Public Information store you are talking about? Storage Groups are just containers for Mailbox and Public Folder Information Stores, so if you by chance have multiple information stores within that group you may be able to temporarily move one of the EDBs off to an alternate location to free some space up and then bring up the other(s) to move data around. USB drives are really not meant for production and I would be surprised if it allowed you to mount it from that drive. Whatever you do ensure that you backup the files while they are offline so that if something goes south you can recover. Another option would be to A. copy the database files to an alternate location and again ensure you have at least two copies, i.e. one master and one to work with. B. Then use Lucid8's DigiScope http://www.lucid8.com/product/digiscope.asp to open the offline EDB. C. Once you know you can access the data you can then remove the database files from the production location (but ensuring you still have the MASTER copy somewhere else and the working copy you are using with DigiScope. D. Now from within ESM mount that database. Exchange will squawk and tell you the database files are missing and if you continue you will create new databases. Say yes and the new database files are created. E. The users with mailboxes in that database will now be able to send and receive email, however they will not have the historical items available (YET) F. Now redistribute some of the mailboxes to a database that you feel will be able to handle their data. G. Now you can use DigiScope to move the historical data into the production mailboxes in their new locations.
