unified namespace for the site resilient datacenter pair (unbound model)

Hello All

Running Exchange 2013 sp1 RU8

We have a DAG that is stretched across two datacenters. Both datacenters contain active databases. We have one namespace that covers both datacenters. Each datacenter contains a vip.  Below is the configuration, the roles are on dedicated servers.

DC1. 4 CAS servers and 4 MBX servers VIP1 = mail.mydomain.com

DC2. 4 CAS servers and 4 MBX servers VIP2 = mail.mydomain.com

If a user whose mailbox lives in DC1, hits the VIP located in DC2, will the CAS server located in DC2 proxy the  traffic to a CAS server located in DC1, or will the CAS server located in DC2 proxy the request directly to the mailbox server in DC1 that host the database were the users mailbox lives? Is this the same behavior for all clients ? i.e. OWA, outlook anywhere EAS?

thank  you

Thank you for the information. Does the same hold true for smtp traffic? Example

MX records point to DC1.  email is addressed to a user who's mailbox lives in DC2. Will the CAS servers located  in DC1 proxy the smtp traffic directly to the mailbox servers in DC2?

thank you
