will it affect the performance?
Hi all,
I just checked my exchange server and notice the backup (CommVault) is still running.
will it affect the performance of exchange server? (from the task manager, the
backup process uses 0% CPU and 25 MB memory)
Thank you.

Given those two variables, its only going to affect performance if its using the disk. Is it doing so?
Also, given that youre running at 0% and 25MB, are you sure its still working, as distinct from running?

Yes, it's still running. Also, I cheked the app log and backup software console.
The backup software we use is to back up exchange 2003 database to the tape.
will it affect the performace of exchange server? I remember do not run a backup during the day time especially working hours in the old days.
But, from the overall performance of task maanager, the CPU is over 50%.
Thank you for the help.

Well, 0% or 50%? The process is running barely any memory and the system is running at 50%. I would guess that the backup has crashed.
Have you called the vendor to open a ticket? Have you just killed the backup and tried again? Have you done any other troubleshooting? The problem is pretty clearly leaning towards the appliation rather than Exchange.
Id try those steps and then if its still not running properly (i.e. doesnt run again and finish quickly) Id raise a ticket.

ok this will affect the performance for sure if your server are not highly utilized users may not notice that, however
if your servers are normally under high utilization during business hours and you run backup users will not be happy
also, you may find the store dismounted if the number of uncimmited transaction at a point increases more than 1000
as when backup is running the checkpoint file freezes
