www service on Windows 2003 server keeps disabling itself
Why does the www service on my new exchange server keep disabling itself? Our original server is an Exchange 2000 and it runs fine. We have added an Exchange 2003 server to the network and it runs fine, except that the www service keeps disabling itself. I have to enable and start it a couple times a day or more. What could cause this? Original Server Specs: Windows 2000 SP4Exchange 2000 Enterprise - Version 6.0 (Build6249.4: Service Pack 3) New server Specs: Windows 2003 Enterprise SP2Exchange 2003 Enterprise - Version 6.5 (Build 7638.2: Service Pack 2)

Do you find the wwwservice stopped and startup type set todisabled? Or are you finding the service just stopped? What do you see in the event logs?

Any chance this new exchange server is in the same OU as your old one? Is it possible that there is a group policy that forces www service to disabled?Have you timed to see how long it takes for the service to become disabled?

I checked the OUs andneither server isassigned to any specific OU. The only group policies that we have created have to do with software installs for users so I do not think that will be the problem. It usually takes a few hours for the www service to disable, sometimes as much as three times during business hours. Most times I will enable about 10am and it will last through the day, but sometimeevery night it will be disabled. Thanks

you might want to enable auditing on this server, so that you could see what is stopping the www service, or changing the startup type to disabled.is there a possibility that someone has a script running that checks for specific services and disables them?

No, there are only two of us on the IT staff and I am the only one that would run scripts. This is a new server install with a fresh copy of Exchange 2003.
