ATI FireGL V3100 & Server 2008 R2 Enterprise
Ok, I have pulled the last of my hair out, and now I must ask for some help! I have completed a fresh install of 2008 R2 x64 on a small server to test it out. If it works, I will be buying a license key for it later this week. However, I am stuck on getting my video card drivers to load! I have an ATI FireGL V3100 workstation card. It is a PCIe card and works fine under any other version of Windows. I have tried downloading drivers for it from ATI directly, and any other site, but I cannot get any of them to install under 2008 R2! My last ditch effort was to install the card into a Win7 Pro x64 machine and then extract the Microsoft WDDM driver that it automatically installed. From there I re-installed the card into my server, booted up and tried the drivers. No go! It gave an error about not having a compatible 64-bit driver, which I found odd since it was removed from a x64 PC. I ended up editing the .inf file and changed all instances of NTamd64...1 to NTamd64 and then I got a tad further in. From there it acted like it was finally going to install, but then crapped out with an error of "The driver selected for this device does not support this version of Windows." I am all out of ideas. Heck, if Win7 can download the Microsoft WDDM driver and install it, why can't server do it too? Does anyone have any thoughts that I can try? I'm trying to do this server on a budget, and I don't really want to spend any more money on a video card that will generally never be used since it will be locked in a back room. Any help is greatly appreciated! Thanks for reading!Live like you were dying....

P.S. Is there a way that I can make 2008 not notice that this driver was made for a Win7 install and just load it anyways. Or a way to make 2008 think it was designed for it? Not sure why there would be a difference in drivers between the two OSes. Thanks!Live like you were dying....

Hi, Based on my experience, most of the drivers for Windows 7 can work properly on Windows Server 2008 and Windows Server 2008 R2, however, there is no guarantee. So, if you can’t install the drivers for the ATI display card, it is recommend that you contact ATI to check whether they have the compatible drivers for Windows Server 2008 R2. Thanks for your understanding. Best Regards, Vincent Hu
