A virus/error so rare-geek squad didnât even know-PLEASE help
I downloaded a file that contained something quite wicked in it. Altered my entire computer. However, I was able to fix all problems using various items (webrooter, antivirus scan, cccleaner etc.) except for one, and that is the one NO ONE can figure out, hopefully you guys can. When I transfer anything, i.e. a music file to a folder on my desktop, the rectangular box that says moving one item appears, obviously, and it DOES transfer the file yet the box WILL NOT go away. When I hit cancel, it just says canceling and still stays there- will not move at all. The only way to get rid of the box is to go to task manager and end task yet when I do that a screen pops up asking if I want to shut my computer down and then the box pops up stating windows explorer is not responding then everything on my desktop disappears for about 10 seconds then comes back. Have any of you heard of anything like this? any suggestions? The only option I have left is wipe the hard drive yet I have thousands of dollars of software on my computer and do not have the discs for all of them and I obviously cannot transfer them to an external hard drive or DVDs due to the transfer problem. If you have taken the time to read this, thank you and God bless. Jeff I AM RUNNING WINDOWS VISTA HOME PREMIUM

Hi Jeff,
First please make sure that no virus exists on your computer now. Please upgrade your anti-virus programs up-to-date and perform a full virus scan.
If viruses are still detected and cannot be removed, you can contact your antivirus vendor for assistance with identifying or removing virus or worm infections. If you need more help with virus-related issues, you can also contact Microsoft Product Support Services.
For support within the United States and Canada, call toll-free (866) PCSAFETY (727-2338).
For support outside the United States and Canada, visit the Product Support Services Web page (http://support.microsoft.com/?pr=SecurityHome).
If all viruses are removed while the issue persists, I suggest testing the issue in Safe Mode. If the issue does not occur in Safe Mode, the cause can be third-party background running program conflictions. Then you can refer to the following article to perform a Clean Boot to troubleshoot the issue. The article also applies to Windows Server 2003 and 2008.
How to perform a clean boot procedure to prevent background programs from interfering with a game or a program that you currently use http://support.microsoft.com/kb/331796/en-us
You can also test the issue in another user account.
Actually, troubleshooting virus issues can be time-consuming and sometimes we cannot guarantee the virus can be removed thoroughly. Therefore, formatting and repartitioning the drive can be an efficient way to resolve the virus issues.
In addition, please understand that we mainly discuss Windows Server issues in this forum. If you encounter Windows Vista issues in the future, I recommend discussing in our Windows Vista forum. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.
