I receive this error message when i try to demote my domain controller using the dcpromo command in cmd. The operation failed because: File replication services: The remote procedure call was cancelled. "The remote procedure call was cancelled."

Have you check the eventlog or dcpromo.log for more information?

Hello Stuckfree, If DC does not hold any FSMO roles, use a command (dcpromo /forceremoval) suggested by Santosh. Also one more thing, before demoting a DC make sure that transfer all roles to other DC/domain partner. Moreover there will be one server which will hold at least DNS/PDC/GC role in a domain.Regards, Ravikumar P

Also one more thing, before demoting a DC make sure that transfer all roles to other DC/domain partner. Moreover there will be one server which will hold at least DNS/PDC/GC role in a domain.
