ISA Server doesn't run on Windows Server 2008.(both Server Core and Full installations) I don't know of a list of applications that are compatible with Server Core installations of Windows Server 2008. A rule of thumb however is when the application requires .Net Framework it won't run. Examples of Microsoft products that won't run on Server Core installations of Windows Server 2008 (but are supported on Full installations of Windows Server 2008) are Microsoft Exchange Server and MicrosoftSQL Server. Note: Certain Microsoft products can be made to run on Server Core installations despite their need for the .Net Framework or ASP.Net, but these configurations are not supported. An example of such a Microsoft product is Virtual Server 2005 R2. Server Core installations of Windows Server 2008 are primarily targeted at solving infrastructural problems with a minimal attack surface and aminimal foot print. For this reason I don't expect a comprehensive Server Core application compatibility list coming out of Microsoft any time soon.

Hi, Unfortunatly ISA 2006 is not supported under Windows Server 2008 at all. The next version will be. You will have to use Windows 2003 for now. As for a list of applications that run under server core I am not sure Check out http://www.isaserver.org/which is a really good resource site for anything related to ISA Server

Hi, No, Microsoft ISA server can't run under Windows Server Core. Please understand Windows server core is mostly used for platform services, but not for application services. The following page shows you what roles we can install under Windows Server Core. Compare Server Core Installation Options http://www.microsoft.com/windowsserver2008/en/us/compare-core-installation.aspx

I am actually not sure I want to use ISA and am toying with using using Apache as a reverse proxy in a DMZ. Basicly, I have a multi-tier ClickOnce WinForms application using WCF to communicate to the backend. I would like to set up a reverse proxy with SSL in a DMZ that forwards Business Object traffic to the Application/DB tiers on the inside network... I'm not sure if ISA can do this (having no experience with it).
