Connect Windows 98 to a share
Hi, Not sure where to post this so have put it in General. Recently upgraded from an SBS 2003 environment to A Hyper V server running virtual instances of SBS2008 and 2003 Standard (2003 to run legacy/DOS based Applications that my client still uses) On the previous setup they had Windows 98 clients that would map to a share on the SBS2003 server just by using the net use F: \\server\share command. I have set up the equivalent share on the 2003 Standard server but everytime I try to connect to it, I am prompted for a password. I tried passing username and password parameters in the batch file but it seems the /user tag for net use is not valid for Windows 98. The old server or the windows 98 clients were not installed by me so I am unsure as to what I have to do to get the share to map on the '98 clients. I have given full control permission to anonymous logon for the share. I have enabled what I believe are the relevant local computer policies for allowing anonymous access to the shares but the password is always prompted. Is there anything that needs to be done on the 2008 DC to allow anonymous access to the 2003 box (as I presume the DC handles all authentication requests), or is there just something I am missing on the 2003 server that will allow the connection to the share. TIA Mark

Hi, Although it is insecure, have you tried modifying the NTFS permissions for the shared folder to allow anonymous read access? -- Mike Burr

Also, On the 98 clients, do you have NTLM V2 enabled: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/239869/en-us -- Mike Burr
