Connecting Virtual Machines on separate computers?
I have 2 virtual machines, each on a separate computer. They are both running Windows Server 2008. I want to network them can anyone tell me how?

hi there, you need to configure basic networking , following are the options to connect 2 windows 2008 serversa) make sure that each seperate computer has the IP address , you can configure either static ip or dynamic ip assigned by dhcp server.b) follow the procedure mentioned in step (a) for configuring 2nd system.c) make sure you point your virutal machine network card in bridged mode / you will be having an option to select the NIC vendor ( eg : broadcom NIC / INtel NIC based on the manufacturer ) on your virtual machine NIC properties d) follow the same process mentioned in step (c) for configuring virutal machine on another VMif you are using static ip address, point the VM to appropriate NIC and configure the static IP addresses.sainath windows driver development.

Hi, The information you provided is not clear enough about your environment (You may use Hyper-V, or VPC or VMware). But the basic is that you can treat the two virtual machine as two normal physical computer. If you want the two virtual machines can communicate with each other, you should put them in one subnet, and they should both have a IP address(I assume one is 192.168.1.10, another is 192.168.1.11), then they are networked. I'm using Microsoft Virtual PC with Shared Networking(NAT) set for the network adapter. However, i'm not sure what the default gateway for the virtual machine should be. Should it be the same as the default gateway on the physical host or should it be the ip address of the physical host?

Hi, According to the description, the issue seems to be related to Virtual PC. As we mainly focus on the General question about Windows Server system and here is not the best support resource for Virtual PC, it is recommend you to get further support in the corresponding community so that you can get the most qualified pool of respondents. Thanks for your understanding. For your convenience, I have list the related link as followed. Hi, Actually, the issue you are encountering does nothing to do with the Virtual Machine software. I recommend that you have a read of the following articles, it may be helpful for you: The virtual machine networking settings in Virtual PC 2004 http://support.microsoft.com/kb/833134/en-us How does networking work under Virtual PC / Virtual Server? http://blogs.msdn.com/virtual_pc_guy/archive/2005/04/01/404816.aspx Best regards, Vincent Hu

VPC support is provided in the Microsoft newsgroups, not forums. microsoft.public.virtualpc You cannot easily communicate between two vms on different hosts if you are using Shared Networking (NAT). You would be better off setting the vms to use the physical NIC in the host for networking. Each vm would then appear to be another machine on the LAN and would be able to communicate using normal network protocols.Bill
