Creating guest clusters in SCVMM 2012 R2
Im very new to SCVMM so please bear with me.
I have a basic lab environment consisting of two hosts clustered using some cheap shared storage.
Ive installed SCVMM and deployed a few highly available VMs.
I want to deploy a guest cluster using with a shared VHDX.
Is the only way to do it by using a a service template, or can I do it another way?
If I do, do I need to create a VM template first to then include it in my service template?
As part of the pre reqs outlined here -
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dn249412.aspx it says I need to have the shared VHDX already available.
How do I go about creating this vhdx file on the shared storage?
Thanks

You need to use service templates, that also will create the cluster with a script that is running on the first deployed VM.
Also, install UR1 for VMM 2012 R2 in order to have this working.

Thanks,
Is using a service template the only way to do it? Do I need to create a VM template first to be used in my service template? Also, do I need create the shared
VHDX disk manually somehow or does this get created as part of the service template side of things?

In VMM, the only way to do it is to use a service template. You'll need to create (or copy) a shared VHDX disk to be used.

Yes - you will need VM templates as this is the building blocks of the service template. The Shared VHDX (and perhaps a disk for qourum is a good thing!) can be created outside and added to the VMM library.
This can be easily deployed with VMM, but of course, you are able to create a guest cluster outside of VMM as well, using shared vhdx.

Ok great, thanks Kristian.

Great, I did this and copied the VHDX to my Library. Thanks.

i have created two vm in system center, now I need to create a cluster with them, can I install the clustering service and create two disk one for data and one for quorum and add them to the two vms? without using service templates or other? do I need to
copy those disk to the library? thanks

Yes you can. Service Templates are needed to create cluster automatically.
