Datacenter and Enterprise licensing
I have a client that recently received a letter stating that they are in consideration for being audited. It seems a previous technical consultant played fast and loose with his MSDN license. My client has two Hyper-V servers with 4 virtual servers on each. The consultant used an MSDN Datacenter install. I want to get my client compliant and I've found that Enterprise should be sufficient. Is there a way I can get those servers changed to Enterprise without having to completely wipe and reinstall? Unfortunately, I feel like I know the answer this question but I thought I'd throw this out there for those with more licensing experience than I.

Hello, you cannot downgrade the datacenter edition after installing. As you said, re-install is required.Best regards Meinolf Weber MVP, MCP, MCTS Microsoft MVP - Directory Services My Blog: http://msmvps.com/blogs/mweber/ Disclaimer: This posting is provided AS IS with no warranties or guarantees and confers no rights.

Thank you - I was afraid that was going to be the answer.
