Default Profile????
Default Profile???? When I was at my last school district I had a Windows 2003 server based domain with Windows XP computers. In the past I was always able to create a customized local profile. I would then Copy that profile to that computer’s local Defalt User profile. Then when a new Domain User logged into that computer they would get the local Default Profile that I set up to start with. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - But I am now at a new school district. That same process is not working. I have a brand new Windows 2008 server based domain, with Active Directory. (1750 Students, 250 Staff and Faculty, 750 Window XP computers with Microsoft Office.) So far I only have one Group Policy created, and it re-directs the My Documents to the user’s network folder. I did the same process with these Windows XP Computers. I customized a local profile. I then copied that profile to that computer’s local Default User profile. This process works for new local computer users. But once I add the computer to the 2008 domain. When a “Domain User” logs into the computer for the first time they do not get the computer’s local Default User profile to start with. They get a brand new un-touched and un-customized profile. And when they use Microsoft Office (Word) for the first time…..they then have to go through the set up of the user’s credentials. (name and initials) This happens every time the student uses a different computer. We don’t want them to have to do this setup and customization to every different computer they log into. We want a simple profile that we can eventually lock down with Group Policy. And I should mention that we don’t want to get into roaming profiles for the students. I can’t help but think something is different with Windows 2008 server and how it is handling this issue of what Profile the user gets for the first time. Does anyone have any answers????

Hi RamZnet , Thanks for posting here. Before we move on, I would like to confirm the following information with you: What if you disable my document redirect setting in policy , is this issue still occur? Is there any policy settings which related with user profile ? What is the domain functional level ? Meanwhile ,seems you have a domain environment ,so I ‘d like suggest you to turn default profile into NETLOGON network share, so that you do not have to set customize profile for every user.It will reduce your work load. Please read the subsection “How Do Users Get Their Profile?” of the article below: User Profile Structure http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc775560(WS.10).aspx Hope that’s helpful Tiger LiPlease remember to click Mark as Answer on the post that helps you, and to click Unmark as Answer if a marked post does not actually answer your question.
