Domain controller connected by wirless card?
I have an issue with my server. It is a poweredge 1750 running windows server 2003 it has domain controller, dns server, and terminal services configured. The problem is I have this in my basement but the only place there is a LAN connection is locked up so if I put it in there I have to be able to turn it on and off and I tried to use wake on lan but that doesn't work because it only lets me put the server into hibernate which I wouldn't have a problem with it's just that the server wakes up in the middle of the night. So I was wondering if I could put a wireless card into the server and be able to have that as it's network connection? I figured that dns and the domain controller would be fine it's just the terminal services I worried about (at the most there would only be one or two terminal client connections)

Aside from the security aspect I don't see using a wireless card being an issue. The DC won't know that it's using wireless.Tony www.activedir.org Blog: www.open-a-socket.com

Hello, I have never seen a server, less a DC with a wireless card. Beside security as Tony pointed out, other factors are: Wireless Speed < cabled Wireless Reliability < cabled You can turn your computer on/off remotely using an intelligent metered PDU. Cost more than a wireless card though. If it's just your home server and it's not a business or critical I would say go for it. But in a business network you may want to rethink that wireless thing a bit.
