Why is it recommended to use the EFS encryption on folders and not on files?

It is recommended to use the EFS encryption on folders and not on files because of a temporary files. This is a scenario to explain why: Let's suppose you created a file named test.docx (Using Microsoft Office 2007 word). You encrypted the file with the use of EFS. Let's suppose also that you opened the file. There will be a creation of a temporary file in the same folder that will not be encrypted. This file can be used by hacker to determine the content of your encrypted file. Let's suppose that you encrypted the folder containing the file you would like to encryt. Even if you open your file, the temporary file will be created but will also be encrypted. So, it is for that it is recommended to use EFS encryption on folders and not on files.
