Enabling ABE in Server 2008 R2

I've read that on Server 2008 that ABE was suppose to be on by default.  I don't know if SP1 changed that but it's no longer the case.

Is there a way to enable it on Server 2008 R2 so that every time I create a share it is automatically turned on?

I haven't found anything on the web on how to do this.

Thanks

How have you conlcuded it is not on?

Did you create a file/dir, ensure some client does not have access to it and then see that the client does have access?

No I created a Directory and shared it.

Then I had to go the Rolls - File Services - select the share - right click proprieties and click the advance button.  Once here I needed to check the box that states "Enable Access-based Enumeration" which was unchecked.

Please refer to this article:

Windows Explorer enables access-based enumeration on shared folders by default

On a computer that is running Windows Server 2008, access-based enumeration is enabled by default on every folder that is shared by using the File Sharing feature. (This is the default sharing feature that is available through Windows Explorer).

However, access-based enumeration is not enabled by default on the following types of shared folders:

  • Shared folders that are created with Share and Storage Management, Advanced Sharing in Windows Explorer, or the net share command
  • Volumes
  • Folders or volumes that are shared for administrative purposes, such as C$ and ADMIN$

I am running SBS 2008R2 and recently added a user with shares. When I sign on remotely via VPN to test the ABE I see all the folders. Access to non-shared folders is blocked as defined in user permissions.  Since the test was with a Windows XP computer I would like to know if USer must run Win7 for ABE to work.
