Are the DomainController and the DomainControllerAuthentication templates used for the same purpose? I thought they served the same purpose because our Enterprise CA states the DomainControllerAuthentication template supersedes the DomainController template. However, I have the DomainControllerAuthentication template set for 2 years and when I renewed a certificate for a Domain Controller, then it said the expiration was 1 year away. Hi, the purpose is the same, but the template DomainControllerAuthentication can only issued by ca´s running windows server 2003 enterprise or higher. If you renew a certificate, you have to use the same template as before. You can see the template name in the details tab of certificate. --1 If you request a new certificate, so you can choose the DomainControllerAuthentication Template an this will be 2 years valid.
