Failed to initialize IBM 1815 FAStT SCSI Disk Device
Hello guys,I encountered a problem while trying to initiliaze SCSI disk on a few servers running Microsoft Windows Server 2003 Standard Edition / Enterprise Edition SP2. I'm currently deploying SAN for those servers using an IBM DS4800.I have no problem assigning LUNs and itis visiblewhenI right click My Computer ---> Properties---> Hardware ---> Device Manager ---> Disk drives as IBM 1815 FAStT SCSI Disk Device.I have no problemwhen viewing it whenI right click My Computer ---> Manage ---> Disk Management. There's this window pops up "Initialize and Convert Disk Wizard" when I click on Disk Management. Then I simply click on Next and choose the Disk to initialize. The second option is to convert the Disk to Dynamic disks. I checked the box. Then to the final option "Completing the Initialize and Convert Disk Wizard". As soon as I clicked on Finish button, this error message appeared on my screen "The operation did not complete. Check the System Event Log for more information on the error".When I viewed System Event Log for more information, I did not see any error message logged. The message logged as :-Type : Information The Logical Disk Manager Administrative Service service entered the running state.I wonder why I did not encounter the same problem with server running on Microsoft Windows Server 2003 Standard x64 Edition SP2.Please help me on this :)

Hello, Based on some research, I find that this may be a known issue. Firstly, I would highly suggest that you contact the device vendors to see if you have gotten the correct device drivers. Then, you can try the following method to see if the problem remains: On the SAN management utility, changed the configuration of SAN Channel Disk path from B to A on new LUN. General steps may be: 1. Make sure SAN data volume (LUN) is NOT attached to any fibre cards (unmounted). 2. Changed the SAN data volume (LUN) channel path from B to A. 3. Attached SAN data volume (LUN)to Qlogic Fibre card. You may need to read the device configuration manual or contact the device vendor about how to do this, as the steps may vary on different storage devices. Best regards, Chang Yin
