File permissions on a file move
With Server 2003, I was able to use the MoveSecurityAttributes registry attribute to force files to inherit the permissions of the parent folder it was moved into on the same volumeno matter if it was copy/pasted or drag/dropped. I am now using Server 2008 and it does not seem that the same registry attribute works. Is there any alternative to this for Server 2008? We have multiple folders with different permissions and our users drag and drop files all the time so permissions get all messed up. I'm looking for a away to avoid permissions following the files when they are dragged and dropped.Any and all help would be greatly appreciated.

Have you tried robocopy? http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc733145(WS.10).aspxIf you use the command-line version you would use the /copyall attribute to copy everything over (including NTFS perms). Here's the GUI version: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/magazine/2006.11.utilityspotlight.aspx

In order to use MoveSecurityAttributes as you were able in Windows XP/Windows Server 2003, you will need to install the following hotfix: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2617058 Hope this helps! Alexander Sklar This posting is provided "AS IS" with no warranties, and confers no rights
