Fixed IP not working
Hi all, I've just installed a fresh copy of Windows Server 2008 and installed a domain controller on it. However I have a problem connecting the server to the internet. I have two NIC cards, one connected to a cable modem and another to the office network. For now I just want the internet on the server (PCs are disconnected). I was given a fixed IP by our local ISP which I have already entered in the NIC that is connected to the modem. However Windows keeps on showing that the NIC has limited or no connectivity. As soon as I give another range of IPs like 192.168.2.1, the warning goes away (but still no internet because these aren't the right settings). Is there a way to give the fixed IPs provided by our ISP to the server without receiving that warning? Thanks for your help. Regards, Clayton

Your ISP informed you to apply that IP to your Server's NIC rather than the IP being applied to their equipment? Make sure that is the case. If that is the case, you simply have to verify the IP, subnet mask and default gateway settings. In addition, they should have provided you with client DNS settings as well. Generally with these DSL/Cable setups, the ISP ips are applied to their equipment and a private IP is applied to the internal network. Visit: anITKB.com, an IT Knowledge Base.

Hi , In addiction JM’s reply, if ISP informed you to apply IP to your cable device, in that case , I think that cable device should has NAT function ,mean all internal user can access internet without through AD server . Meanwhile , if ISP require you to set IP to server NIC, It is not recommend to install AD and RASS in same machine , it will cause many odd issues.
