How to read ikeext.etl on windows 2008 R2 beta or on Win 7 beta x64
I've been playing a little bit with the the new Agile VPN feature which is very cool.I've noticed that we can find some info about IKEv2 events in the ikeext.etl file.My VPN client is Win 7 x64 beta, and the VPN server is a Win 2008 R2 x64 ent beta(with two nics), domain integrated with another Win 2008 R2 x64 ent beta acting as DC, DHCP and NPS.I'm aware of this thread:http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/winserversecurity/thread/98d5725b-f285-4b20-894b-1b159488253c/Bu the problem is that there is no trace message format file(wfp.tmf) within Win7 or 2008 R2 x64.So the only thing I get is a lot of "No Format Information found" messages.I've even tried with the tracefmt.exe from the SDK for Windows Server 2008 or with a wfp.tmf from a x32 version of Win 2008. I can scroll through the ikeext.etl file using wordpad, and find some useful details about the IKEv2 negotiations, or to read the Security logs from Event Viewer, but to be honest, that's now way near to the level of logging I would get from Strongswan for example in respect with IKEv2.Reading the data from ikeext.etl file in human readable format would be quite useful for IKEv2, since this is new stuff for the Windows VPN server. Thanks!Adrian

Hi, The information in a .etl file is not in a human readable format, we need to convert it with related symbol. I recommend that you contact Microsoft Customer Support Service (CSS) to convert and analyze the trace. To obtain the phone numbers for specific technology request please take a look at the web site listed below: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=fh;EN-US;PHONENUMBERS You can also submit the issue in the Windows Server 2008 R2 Networking forum. The support professionals there are more experienced in this kind of issues, and should be able to provide you with more suggestions.
