Hyper-V LACP or switch independent?

I have a 2 node, server 2012 Hyper-v Cluster.

I originally had the teaming setup using LACP and hashing. I've since changed it over to a Hyper-V port.

I found this blog:http://www.aidanfinn.com/?p=12924 that says I most likely want to use Switch Independent when using a Hyper-V port. Just wan to know if this is true and whether I would see improved performance?

My current setup is a converged network with 4 1 gig nics per node (I have dual 10gig Nics ordered). I do not use the converged network for disk access only network access.

Hi zerolatency,

I have read the blog you posted.

And normally there are  more than one VMs doing different things in the Hyper-v environment .

For choosing "Independent Hyper-v port" , the sentence need to be considered : "No distribution of traffic.  It maps a VM to a single NIC.  If a VM needs more pipe than a single NIC can handle then this wont be able to do it." , may be it caused you to order dual 10Gb Nics .

Personal opinion is if there are multiple VMs , "Independent & Hyper-v port " is normally prefered .

Hope this helps

Best Regards

Hey,

if you have more VMs than physical Nics you will see performance benefits even with Switch independent mode and I agree, it's the most easy and straight forward mode for NIC-Teaming on Hyper-V.
