Since my end of week backup started on a fileserver last night at 10pm, every minute or so I am getting multiple VSS errors registered in evert viewer. It's got the point where the backup has simply just stopped. The VSS errors I am getting are: Volume Shadow Copy Service error: A critical component required by the Volume Shadow Copy service is not registered. This might happened if an error occurred during Windows setup or during installation of a Shadow Copy provider. The error returned from CoCreateInstance on class with CLSID {faf53cc4-bd73-4e36-83f1-2b23f46e513e} and Name VSSEvent is [0x80040154]. Volume Shadow Copy Service error: Unexpected error calling routine CoCreateInstance. hr = 0x80040154. Volume Shadow Copy Service error: Unexpected error calling routine CoCreateInstance. hr = 0x80040206. Volume Shadow Copy Service error: Unexpected error calling routine CoCreateInstance. hr = 0x80080005. Volume Shadow Copy Service error: The EventSystem service is disabled or is attempting to start during Safe Mode. The Volume Shadow Copy service cannot start while in safe mode. If not in safe mode, make sure that EventSystem service is enabled. I've worked through 940032 before on this server. I'll give it another go. The hotfix is already installed. A simple reboot seems to have resolved the issue for the timebeing. I'll see it occurs next time VSS is used.

I've had a couple of other VSS errors and have just run the commands in 940032. When I do I get a VSS error logged in eventvwr: Volume Shadow Copy Service initialization error: the control dispatcher cannot be started [0x80070427]. All the solutions I come across seem to point back to kb940032 Does anybody else have any ideas or suggestions?

Hi, First of all, I would like to confirm the backup tools you used. If you were using a third-party backup tool, I recommend that you contact the vendor of the backup tool for more information. If you were using Windows Server Backup, it is recommend you to get further support in the corresponding community so that you can get the most qualified pool of respondents.
