No AV on 2008 R2server only DEP
I just came across a 2008R2 server serving several websites with IIS7 and all they have for AV is DEP on all services. The admin there told me it was good enough. I would at least like to put eset on that box. Is it a valid claim that just DEP on all services is good enough? I wouldnt think so. Craig

Hi, It depends. By the way, the following post discussed the similar issue, you can refer to: AntiVirus - To have or not to have? http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/winservergen/thread/084cefe0-28eb-4219-865d-a843e0a3c7ae/ Best Regards, Vincent Hu

Personally, I think he's nuts. Especially running IIS7. If you can win the argument, be sure to install a server class AV, not a workstation class one. -------- Regards, Hank Arnold Microsoft MVP Windows Server - Directory Services http://it.toolbox.com/blogs/personal-pc-assistant/ On 11/20/2010 1:32 PM, CraigMilw wrote: I just came across a 2008R2 server serving several websites with IIS7 and all they have for AV is DEP on all services. I'm with you, I would use as much protection as is available. Heck Security Essentials from Micrsoft is free. http://www.microsoft.com/security_essentials/ -- Paul Bergson MVP - Directory Services MCITP: Enterprise Administrator MCTS, MCT, MCSE, MCSA, Security+, BS CSci 2008, Vista, 2003, 2000 (Early Achiever), NT4 http://www.pbbergs.com Twitter @pbbergs Please no e-mails, any questions should be posted in the NewsGroup This posting is provided "AS IS" with no warranties, and confers no rights.
