Password Protected Server Share
Hi All,
At my place of work I have a server shar which holds a digital copy of all our install sets for the various bits of software we get asked to install.
Since we moved to Windows 7 a small VB program we used to access it with elevated rights no longer works so I am looking for a way to allow us to access the share as a standard user, but only be able to open or run the files as an admin.
ideally it would be set up that it asks for a password to enter the share at all but if we can get users to be able to access it but not run it without admin permissions that would also work.
Any help would be much apprecaited.
Thanks.IT Professinal

Hi,
Would you please explain what do you mean to access the share as a standard user, but only be able to open or run the files as an admin? NTFS permission is not related to administrator
privilege.
To turn on Password Protected Sharing
===============================
1. Click Start, enter "Network and Sharing Center" in the Start Search box .
2. Click "Change advanced sharing settings" in the left pane.
3. Make sure that "Password protected sharing" is turned on.

Thanks for the reply Arthur,
To try and explain more clearly...
We need a way that we can store digital copies of software (exe files etc) on a server share and access that share as a standard user. However, we dont want the users to be able to install any of it so need to only allow those with admin credentials to run
the files.
Thanks all

If you are in a workstation environment
Create a standard user and admin user in the local computer and assisgn the approximate permission for the standard user and admin user to make it work.
If you don't want the users able to install any of the software, assign deny permission
