Printing with IPP over SSL

Hi,

To ensure End to end encryption of print Jobs, i want to use IPP over SSL. I have a centralized Print Server WIN2008 R2 and WIN 7 Clients. I have installed/enabled the Internet Printing Client on both, IIS and Print Server Role at the Server and have enabled Windows Internet Printing within the Print Server Role.

To give it a try, i started with IPP Printing without SSL. Printer hardware is IPP enabled. I could create a Printer with Internet Port at the Client to Print to the Printer directly. Same works for the 2008 Server (Printing directly from the Server to the Hardware Printer).

My Problem is, that i cant connect from the client to the Printer Object at the Server. I even can't share the IPP Printer Object on the server. It refused the action with the Message "Sharing is not supported for this type of Printer"

Is there a way to print (first just with IPP) in the manner i plan to do?

Is there a instruction Manual how to configure the print environment to met my security considerations?

Thanks and regards,

Axel

Hi Niels,

Microsoft has not invested much time in IPP in the past 12 years.

Sharing a printer that connects to an IPP port is not supported.  You may be able to hack the registry to get this working but it is probably better to find a device that supports WSD secure print.

Hi,

sorry for the delay. Unfortunatly i have to use 2008 R2 Servers and meanwhile i found a way to print via IPP/SSL without hacking the registry but just using Standards without additional Software. My last Problem is that i cannot see uthe correct user Names in the print job list but nt authority/IUSR instead. Is it possible tho display the user nae who sent the file?

Thanks and regards,

Axel

So whats about encryption between the client Computer and the print server? Is this also covered by using WSD secure printing?

Thanks and regards,

Axel
