Problems with Roaming Profiles
Hi All, I have a problem with some Roaming profiles at a costumer site, sometimes when a user logs off all settings they made are written to the profiles map on our file server but sometimes it goes wrong and when the user logs on to another pc all settings they made before are gone. This problem is only by a few people, so we have checked all security permissions and GPO settings. We use xp pro computers and our DC run Windows Server 2008, but the profiles are saved on a File server with also Server 2008. I have tested a lot and everytime I think that i fixed it because it works for a while, but the problem always come back. Does anyone have the same problem? Raymond

Hi, I would like to confirm the following questions: 1. What related error messages can you read in Event Viewer? 2. Are that any EFS files in roaming profiles? Please make sure that Windows XP clients are up to date and perform the following tests: 1. Check to see that the user can connect to the server that contains the roaming user profile file share. 2. See if a disk quota has been exceeded. 3. See if this Group Policy setting has been applied. For the detailed steps, please refer to the following Microsoft TechNet article: User Profile Does Not Roam http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc978340.aspx If the issue persists, would you please upload Userenv.log to the public folder of Windows Live SkyDrive and post the link for our further research? Windows Live SkyDrive http://skydrive.live.com/ Collect the Userenv.log =============== Subkey: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon Entry: UserEnvDebugLevel Type: REG_DWORD Value data: 0x00030002 (Hexadecimal) After the issue reoccurs, find and upload %windir%\Debug\UserMode\Userenv.log file. Hi Arthur, 1. There are no error messages in the event viewer. 2. There are no EFS files in roaming profiles. For the XP clients i have checked 1. the user can connect to the server that contains roaming profile 2. there is no disk quota in use 3. all the group policy settings are succesvol applied. So the questions above are not the problems, when it happends i would upload the userenv.log. I have to get that from a workstation? thanks for youre reply! regards, Raymond

Hi, Please collect and upload the userenv.log from the client machine. Do you log onto the different computers with the same roaming user account at the same time? Please also read the following Microsoft TechNet article to avoid the user profile related issue. Best Practices for User Profiles http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc784484(WS.10).aspx Regards,Please remember to click Mark as Answer on the post that helps you, and to click Unmark as Answer if a marked post does not actually answer your question. Hi Arthur, Did you see the log file? We still having problems with our roaming profiles. The load of the profiles took very long. When you log out of the client it also took very long to write it back to the file server. I hope to hear from you! gr Raymond
