Recovered 2008 DC Issue
Hi
We currently use 3rd party software to image some of our servers. We use this software to image a 2003 domain controller and a 2008 domain controller.
Using the 3rd party software we convert these images into Hyper-V format and then import them into a Hyper-V server to create a Virtual Machine. We recently tested restoring the 2003 domain controller and it worked at treat after we had booted the Virtual
machine and configured the DNS and IP settings. We could open DNS and launch Active Directory etc.
When we booted the 2008 domain controller Virtual Machine and after we configured its IP settings we find that it cannot contact itself, active directory and DNS wont open etc. All the usual errors are reported from KDC such as "There are no logon servers
available". All the classic errors of a domain controller that does not have the DNS settings properly configured. I have the IP settings correct i.e. the DNS address is pointing to itslf so I cant understand how the 2003 is working ok but not the 2008 server.
The 2008 server holds all the FSMO roles.
Is it the case with a 2008 domain controller that it must be able to contact another DC before it will function properly?
Thanks for any help
