SBS 2008 - DHCP can not be started - Companyweb not available etc
We run a small network with 3 XP Clients and SBS 2008 Premium. We do not run the email via the SBS2008.
So far all worked fine. We could access the various drives on the Server, the companyweb, the faxes etc.
One day in December, "the network did not work". All of a sudden we had to change the IP Settings on the workstations to work. We had to issue the IP's of the ISP and give fixed IP addresses to workstations. At the same time, the Companyweb was no more accessible,
with this the fax etc.
I just can't figure out the problem. We still can access all the files on the file server. By mistake, I deleted my own client at the server, and
http://connect does also not work (it says IE cannot connect to the website). From the Server, the other two workstations are seen as "on-line" with green everything. The companyweb is shown "on-line" with green hook. Backup keeps
working as usual. But DHCP can not be started. Even "fix the network" can not resolve this. It says it can not start DHCP. There is no second DHCP provider on the network, I checked. The router has DHCP off and even the modem afte the router is DHCP off. Looking
at IPconfig /all shows no discrepancies. DNS Server works fine. Just DHCP does not work. When I click companyweb it says "can not connect to the configuration database".
It was so far not a "big deal" as we can access all our files. We connect via the workstations to the external ISP for the Email, so we don't go through the SBS 2008 with our emails. The only thing "missing" for our 3 people is the Companyweb ( and
I set up many things there, not only the calender, also some databases) and we distributed incoming faxes on the Companyweb. Has anybody an idea why DHCP looks like completely blocked and Companyweb gone?
Many thanks,
Albert
