SCSM 2012 Self Help Portal Access Permission

Hi,

Currently we are testing out SCSM 2012 self help portal below is the setup

Our Domain: CorpTest

Self-help portal SharePoint Web Parts content install in sharepoint 2010 server named sp2010 with self-help application pool account for sharepoint web site: CorpTest /sp2010apppool

URL: http://sp2010:121/SPPortal

Web Content Server install in SCSM 2012 server named scsm2012 with SSP service account: CorpTest/scsm2012svcac

URL: http://scsm2012:2500/ServiceHost/Services/DataAccessService.svc

Where do we specify the account information in the Self-help portal SharePoint Web Parts in the SharePoint 2010 Server (sp2010) to access the Web Content Server DataAccess Service residing in the SCSM 2012 Server (scsm2012) ?

How do we allow an end user to access the self-help portal, shall we add the end user to Site Permission in the Sharepoint Server and/or EndUser user Roles in the Service Manager Console connected to scsm2012 server? Is there a way to mirror the permission level in the User Roles from the Service manager console to the SharePoint 2010 self-help portal?

Thank

Li Liang

as part of the setup, you specify the required information.

You can grant users access to the portal via Sharepoint.

For example the end user portal is the SMContentPortal and port.

http://<smcontentportalurl>:<specifiedport>/Smportal (the smportal identifier can be changed within SharePoint)

Like me, you may need to add your users to the "read only operators" group.

Before I did that, my users were able to get to the site but NOT create the request.

Hope you find this helpful,

F.

Li Liang, in our implementation we add users to a Sharepoint security group so they can access the Portal, and use custom SCSM user roles for users to be able to access our Request Offerings. You can also use an out-of-box user role.

Both service offerings and their request offerings are available to Self-Service Portal users when the status of the offerings is set to Published and if end users have been assigned a corresponding Service Manager user role. Only users who have been assigned a user role associated with a catalog group that contains catalog items can use the Self-Service Portal to access the service catalog.

How to create a user role is covered in the SCSM 2012 Administrator’s Guide available on TechNet.

See below from the Admin Guide:

You need to repeat this on the following link as well for the default generic incident request. Localhost is your Sharepoint server http://localhost:<port>/_layouts/user.aspx

I grant the Domain Users Group read.

This will give the users the minimum permission to log incidents using the portal. The service catalog groups are required for custom service offering/request offering you create. Once you have a service offering configured you can then add catalog groups to a role to present different service offering to different groups.

How to Grant Permissions on the SharePoint Site

Use the following procedure to grant permissions to the Self-Service Portal SharePoint site in Service Manager for System Center 2012.

To grant permissions on the Self-Service Portal SharePoint site

1.   Log on to the computer that hosts the SharePoint Web site with administrative credentials.

2.   Open a browser and connect to the SharePoint site at http://localhost:<port>/_layouts/settings.aspx.

3.   In the upper left area of the web page, click Site Actions, and then click Site Permissions.

4.   On the SharePoint ribbon, click Grant Permissions.

5.   In the Grant Permissions box, in the Users/Groups box, type the Active Directory name for the users or user groups to whom you want to grant access.

6. In the Grant Permissions area, click Grant users permission directly.

7.   In the Grant Permissions area, click Read – Can view pages and list items and download documents, and then click OK.

8.   Close the browser.

If  you are looking for how to show/hide service offerings  and requests on the portal I recently wrote a blog post (with screenshots) that will show you how to set the permissions in the console to achieve this. You can check it out here:  http://blog.concurrency.com/infrastructure/scsmportalpermisions/
