SPN: tapinego service?
Windows Server 2008R2 registers "tapinego" service in Service Principal Name (SPN).
What kind of service is this?

I have found it on these operating systems:
Windows 7 Enterprise
Windows 7 Ultimate
Windows Server 2008 R2 Datacenter
Windows Server 2008 R2 Enterprise
Windows Server 2008 R2 Entreprise
Windows Server 2008 R2 Standard
Windows Server 7 Enterprise
Windows Server® 2008 Enterprise
Windows Web Server 2008 R2
As there's also a web server edition in this list, it makes me wonder if it's related to some kind of web software installed on these machines. Not sure what.

Hello,
i don't see it listed in my Windows server 2008 R2 machine. Which roles/applications are installed?
Maybe the output from "setspn -l machinename" without the qoutes can help.Best regards Meinolf Weber Disclaimer: This posting is provided "AS IS" with no warranties or guarantees , and confers no rights.

Most computers don't have this SPN registered, but many of them do. (The ones who do have this SPN registered are mostly W2K8R2, but I also found it on W2K8, and even on Win7 workstations, as you can see above)
Loads of software is installed - very diverse, but I also found this tapinego SPN registered on an object for a Web Edition server... not much installed on that one, apart from the web services.
It would be interesting to find out during which install exactly this SPN is being registered.

maybe Token API NEGOtiate? like SPNEGO tokens for J2EE, .NET, Java, Web service clients for HTTP requests?

This is not correct. SPN totally depends on the service instance. If the service is running on the system then it would have the corresponding entry. In windows service installer always decides the account name to get register with the service instance ( tapinego)
in your case.
In your case it could be the TAPI service for which a SPN is registered.

TAPI service has a name TapiSrv not tapinego.
