Server 2003 - Major Issues
I'm having some major issues with one of our Windows 2003 servers and I'm in dire need of some assistance. Last night our users were not able to connect into our Exchange Server(2003) via Outlook over the web. After stopping and restarting some services didnt resolve the problem, i rebooted the server this morning. Upon reboot, hardly any of the server's services started. When I check the event logs, I can see multiple errors but when I double click to open them, there is no response. Fortunately I was able to save the log files and open them on another box. The server cannot open network drives. Key services are failing to start including Server Service, RPC, Netlogon, etc. Of course applications such as Exchange also fail to start. Some of the errors include: Directory Service - Event ID 1168 - Internal Processing - The description for Event ID ( 1168 ) in Source ( NTDS General ) cannot be found. The local computer may not have the necessary registry information or message DLL files to display messages from a remote computer. You may be able to use the /AUXSOURCE= flag to retrieve this description; see Help and Support for details. The following information is part of the event: 1053, 41d, 30004df. System - LsaSrv SPNEGO - Event ID 32777 The LSA was unable to register its RPC interface over the TCP/IP interface. Please make sure that the protocol is properly installed. Event ID 40960 - The Security System detected an attempted downgrade attack for server LDAP/bocchifs01.BocchiLabs.local/BocchiLabs.local@BocchiLabs.local. The failure code from authentication protocol Kerberos was "An attempt was made to logon, but the netlogon service was not started.(0xc0000192)". Event ID 12291 - SAM failed to start the TCP/IP or SPX/IPX listening thread i researched much of these error on the support site but wasn't able to come up with much. I suspect some type of major registry corruption but I'm not sure how to proceed from here. So far I've rebooted in AD recovery mode and attempted to recover the database which completed successfully but didnt resolve the issue. At this point I'm trying to fix the problem without re-installing the OS from scratch but I want to avoid that if possible as this server is both running AD and Exchange 2003. Any advice on where to go from here would be much appreciate. Thanks -

Did you check the hard drives. Can you access all drives from this server. Do you have enougth space on these drives? Here are some good KB articles: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/280364 http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc756532(WS.10).aspx Santhosh Sivarajan | MCTS, MCSE (W2K3/W2K/NT4), MCSA (W2K3/W2K/MSG), CCNA, Network+ Houston, TX http://blogs.sivarajan.com/ http://publications.sivarajan.com/ This posting is provided "AS IS" with no warranties, and confers no rights.

I had already checked those out and unfortunately, doesn't apply to my issues. Don't have any hard drive, space, or network card issues. At this point, I believe my issues are due to a nasty virus infection that wreaked havoc. I'm gonna attempt a cleanup and if that fails I'm looking at a windows re-install. :(
