Server 2008 and Intel Pro1000 NIC
I am testing Windows Server 2008 Standard on my workstation in a dual boot environment with Vista32. Everything in Vista works fine thus, I assmed that everything in Server2008 would work fine as well. However post install I notice that the Intel Pro1000 NIC does not communicate. The drivers appear to install properly and I've even gone and installed the latest Intel drivers downloaded from their site to no avail. When I run the Intel NIC tests all come back fine except for the IP based tests since this thing won't do proper IP (Static or DHCP). I know for a fact that the install will do IP as there is an onboard Nvidia based NIC that works however it doesn't seem to work out quite that well with my Hyper-V VMs.Has anyone had problems with Intel NICs in 2008 Server? It seems highly unlikely to me however I just can't seem to get this NIC to do IP stopping short of voodoo magic.

Alright I've tested this on another machine with the same NIC and that machine/NIC combination works. Different hardware other than the NIC but it works. Why would this work under Vista with the same kernel but not in Win2k8?

Hello,
Although Windows Vista and Windows Serve 2008 share the same kernel, they are different operating systems and need different device drivers. We design Windows Server 2008 in compliance with the industrial standard. We also do our best to make our OS work properly with most third-party products. However, please understand that the device drivers, even those shipped in the operating system are provided by the hardware manufacturers.
For this issue, I would like to suggest that you contact the manufacture of the hardware to check whether there is device driver specifically designed for Windows Server 2008.
Meanwhile, we will also work closely with the third-party manufacture. If we have any update, we will let know you as soon as possible.
Thank you for the understandings.David Shen - MSFT
