Server 2008 folder security/permissions question
Having a tough time with this. I want all domain users to see all folders from main shared folder but not allow them to open the folder unless they're in a security group. (That way they can ask for security by folder name but not be allowed to see
the contents of the folder). If I give Domain Users "read" they can enter the folder. If I remove the "read" the folder is not visable. Thank you.

What about using List Contents?

Thanks for reply. I used List Folder contents on root folder for Domain Users and removed Domain Users for sub forlder and the sub folder disappears.

I want to be able to see the folder, just not see the contents or be able to open it.

I'm afraid Windows doesn't do that.

Hi,
Thank you for the post.
The list folder/Read Data permission includes view file names and subfolder names(enter the folder) in the folder. It's by designed and you couldn't change it.

I did find what I was looking for. It's called "Access-based Enumeration"

ABE won't let the users view the folders if they don't have at least List Contents. I guess you got your initial request description wrong if ABE achieves what you want.
