Server 2008 hangs on boot (Safemode works)
Upon booting 2008 in normal mode the green graphic progress bar just hangs and nothing happens. I can get into safe mode. When I run the boot log boot it will get in and let me log in then the OS hangs. Ran dish check on boot and it was clean. How can I see where the boot is hanging in normal mode?

Hi, This could be probably caused by an incompatible driver. Now I suggest performing a Clean Boot first in Safe Mode: How to Perform Clean Boot: ================== 1. Click Start, type MSCONFIG in the Search Bar and Press Enter to start the System Configuration Utility. Note: Please click Continue if the "User Account Control" window pops up. 2. Click the Services tab, check the "Hide All Microsoft Services" box and click Disable All (if it is not gray). 3. Click the Startup tab, click Disable All and click OK. 4. Restart the computer. Note: Clean Boot is a troubleshooting step. If some programs have been disabled during the troubleshooting, we can re-enable them later. If there appears System Configuration Utility , check the box of "Don't show this message" and then click OK. Can you enter Normal Mode now? If not, please send me the Sigverif file for further research: Sigverif File ============= a. Click Start, click Run, type "sigverif" (without the quotation marks), and then click OK. b. Click Advanced. c. Check the box before “Save the file signature verification results to a log file”. d. Choose “Overwriting existing log file.”. e. Set the Log file name as SIGVERIF.TXT. f. Click OK. g. Click Start. A SIGVERIF.TXT file will be created in C:\WINDOWS. Please upload SIGVERIF.TXT to https://sftus.one.microsoft.com/choosetransfer.aspx?key=ed4c4470-1ee2-4dcb-b75f-3f87438c787e Password: lMO+$HgzjFBy{b Tim Quan

Odd stuff... OK.. so got into safe mode.. and disabled all other services and auto starts... BOOTED INTO NORMAL MODE (thanks) ...then it got weird.. the first thing I did was check for updates.. that hung the box frozen.. had to reboot... reboot hangs at the green progress bar (on normal boot) again.. rebooted into safe mode again.. I ran sigverif and everything was digitally signed. Re-disabled everything via MSCONFIG and rebooted in normal mode. ..still hangs at green bar... ????

Is this a standalone, member or DC server? Also, did you, by any chance, disable IPv6 from the NICs?

What are the next steps..? I booted from the 2008R2 64bit disc... run a memory check.. came up clean.. I ran HP diags also clean.. I tried to repair existing install from the install CD and get the error that there was an OS mismatch 2008 6.1.7600.16385 is what I have and I have the only 2008R2 disc we own... At times it WILL let me login to normal mode but locks us very soon... the odd thing is that at one point I could right click the desktop or system tray and even get the menu.. I choose task manager and nothing comes up.. I am forced to reset the system. Safe mode still works.. PLEASE HELP!
