Speaker Icon Win 2008
Why is this so hard? I want to find the registry entry that turns off the speaker icon on my Windows Server 2008 x64 build. It's a server and doesn't have a sound card in it, so it shouldn't have the icon for a speaker in the taskbar! After much searching on the internet, all I can find are instructions on how to remove all the system icons, but I don't want to remove all of them, just the speaker. Then I finally find something that references a value HideSCAVolume that's supposed to be in HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer. Alas! Right? WRONG! That value does not exist there. Nor in HKLM either. Neither do the other values that were mentioned, HideSCANetwork, etc. A full search of the registry turned up nothing.I know you can change this with the check box, but I am building these servers using the unattended.xml, and I want to put this setting in during the build. Thanks to anyone who can help!

Hi, To remove the audio icon from the system tray, you can right-click the notification area, click Properties. Uncheck the box before Volume and click OK. If you would like to remove it during an unattend installation, I am afraid that you have to write a script. If you would like to know how to write the script, please post a thread in our MSDN forum. They mainly deal with scripting/coding issues and should be the best resource to help you. MSDN forum: http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/forums/en-US/categories/ Tim Quan - MSFT
