Certification Authority role do not require a lot of resources even in a high-loaded environments. Therefore the recommendation is simple at least recommended hardware requirements for Windows Server 2008 R2. From one of my performance tests, the virtualized CA server running on Hyper-V with regular disks, 512MB RAM and Core i5 660 @3,3GHz processor (only single core was assigned to VM) and the server was able to process about 25 requests per second with about 70% CPU utilization. The most critical for CA is CPU performance, because cryptographic operations (hashing, signing, encryption) consumes only CPU. In addition you may have to consider faster disks with redundancy (RAID1 or RAID10).My weblog: http://en-us.sysadmins.lv PowerShell PKI Module: http://pspki.codeplex.com Windows PKI reference: on TechNet wiki
