USB Audio on Windows Server 2008
I have Windows Server 2008 Enterprise (x64) installed on HP DL380 G5.I tried to install a USB audio adapter (iMic) so I can have audio device on VMWare GSX.From Device Manager, I can see the "iMic USB audio system" appears under "Sound, video and game controllers". There's no warning exclamation mark on it. And that's the only device listed there. In "Control Panel" > "Sound", I have "No audio devices are installed" message.I've tried http://support.microsoft.com/kb/957080. No luck. How shall we troubleshoot this kind of problem?See screenshot at http://216.77.188.54/coDataImages/p/Groups/399/399327/folders/300296/2396396audio.JPGThanks!MichaelMichael

Are you viewing audio devices locally or through Remote Desktop?

Run these commands to verify that the Audio Service is running and set for auto-start:sc qc AudioSrvsc queryex AudioSrvIf those are set properly, try uninstalling the device through device manager and reinstall (preferrably using Windows Update drivers if applicable).

Windows automatically installed the driver. It looks wierd that I have only the hardware device under "Sound" Category. Shouldn't we have some other stuffs like "Audio Codecs", "Legacy Audio Drivers, "Legacy Video Capture Devices", "Media Control Devices" and "Video Codecs"?Thanks! Michael

I don't know--I just checked Griffin's website and they say the iMic isn't supported on Vista, so I think you'll have to find a different device.http://www.griffintechnology.com/articles/532-my-imic-will-not-work-in-vista My iMic will not work in Vista! The iMic hardware is not compatible with the Microsoft Vista operating system.

I move the iMic USB audio adapter to another Windows 2008 (fresh install, no updates at all). It worked. And I see "Audio Codecs", "Legacy Audio Drivers, "Legacy Video Capture Devices", "Media Control Devices" and "Video Codecs" under "Sound" category in Device Manager. So it looks like it's something to do with those Windows updates. :(Thanks for the help though. What driver is listed for the device? I'll take a look later today for a resolution.

Hi, Where did you capture this picture, one the problematic computer or the fresh installed computer? Please check whether you got the same drivers on both computer?Have you tried to install the driver from the USB audio adapter company?
