Unable to install any role or feature in windows server 2008
Since today I get the same error everytime when i try to install a feature or role. It reports: Installation Report Role/feature Role/feature: Installation failed <Error>: Attempt to install role/feature failed with error code 0x80092004. Cannot find object or property. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80092004) The only third party software services im running are: Apache 2.2 DynDNS updater Mysql Visual SVN server But even after turning these services off the error message still appears at the en of the installation. I hope someone knows the answer to this problem. Thanks in advantage Thomas Bruggink

Hello, start the server with a clean boot and disable all not Microsoft services listed under "msconfig" started from the run line without the quotes. Then try again.Best regards Meinolf Weber Disclaimer: This posting is provided "AS IS" with no warranties or guarantees , and confers no rights.

I did tried that just a moment ago but with no succes. Still the same message when updating or installing a role or feature. However there was one update that failed during installation (and still fails): http://support.microsoft.com/kb/968930 When retrying to install this update it starts with installing at 1/4 of the installation and then fails directly. Could this half installed update be the problem? Thomas Bruggink

Hi Thomas, It seems that there're some corrupt system files. Please try to run "sfc /scannow" with elevated command prompt to repair the corrupt system files. If that won't work, the last option is to do an in-place upgrade of Windows Server 2008. Hello, I think this issue is related to updates problems!! try to update your Windows Server again. Regards,
August 19th, 2010 12:56pm

Unfortenatly the sfc /scannow did not result in a fix, but told me the system was fine. However, I also think it has something to do with an update. Ive currently got one optional update in the list: Windows PowerShell 2.0 and WinRM 2.0 for Windows Server 2008 x64 Edition (KB968930) Download size: 34.2 MB You may need to restart your computer for this update to take effect. Update type: Optional The Windows Management Framework Core package includes Windows PowerShell 2.0 and Windows Remote Management (WinRM) 2.0. For more information on the Windows Management Framework, see http://support.microsoft.com/kb/968929. More information: http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkID=165613 Help and Support: http://support.microsoft.com However when trying to install this update it crashes halfway and returns the same error i get when installing roles/features. I just tried to uninstall Windows PowerShell 2.0 but that gave me the following error: Cannot install Windows PowerShell(TM) V2 (CTP) because the operating system installed on this computer does nog support Windows PowerShell(TM) V2 (CTP). Refer to Windows PowerShell(TM) V2 (CTP) documentation for supported versions of the Operating system Then the setup closes. So is there a way to uninstall PowerShell anyway because i think this program is blocking me from accessing/installing the role/feature's Thomas Bruggink

Hi Taxos, I don't think you can uninstall Powershell. It's a feature integrated in Windows Server 2008. You can also try to perform an in-place upgrade of Windows Server 2008 with installation media to fix the problem if your computer is not a DC. To perform an in-place upgrade of Windows Server 2008, follow these steps: 1. Insert the Windows Server 2008 installation CD/DVD, then double click to run the Setup from CD/DVD. 2. Choose the language and click Install Now. 3. Accept the License Agreement and Choose Upgrade. 4. Select the same edition of Windows Server 2008 that is installed on server. (Please make sure you have enough space in your System drive.)
