WAN Network Drive Map
Windows 2003 R2 Server/Windows XP Clients.....2 separate domains connected by a Wireless Bridge and Cisco Routers..... Trusted Domains have been setup....DNS Servers replicate to each other. I can't map a drive to the other network using my login on the other network...."Inaccessable error" Network Neighborhood won't let me browse the other network either. I disabled WINS earlier since I didn't think I needed it any longer since DNS replications occur. Do I need to re-Enable WINS or is there something in DNS/Windows 2003 that I can use to solve the issue?

I would say maybe a routing rule problem Try the DNS for the remote server (nslookup servername) Try to map the share with the IP of the server Try with domain\username in the credential windows If it fail with the domain\username and the ip of the server, then a router rule is not ok IMO. Wireshark the traffic at the remote site, and you will see what get there.. The network neighborhood browsing that doesnt work is normal, it work with broadcast, the router don't forward such traffic and it's normal. phil

Make sure the user is added into the security of that folder , is this the same behavior while trying to map a drive using a) short name b) fqdn c) ipaddress ? capture a netmon / wireshark on the target while trying to map a drive and paste the specific packets or upload the file for review.

Hi, Can you access the share folder directly using \\IPaddress\Share? Please verify that the Browse with NetBIOS over TCP/IP can across the router. If the router do not support, we need to deploy WINS server. In addition, make sure NetBIOS over TCP/IP is enabled on each computer. Make sure all NetBIOS related service was started.
