Win 2008 R2 Server Failure
My new Win 2008 R2 server is failing. The system event log shows a bugcheck error then restarts. I have a dmp file but I need some tools and references so I can figure out what is going wrong. Help please?

what stop message does the eventlog entry contain for the crash? should be some 0x8digit error code in there. what roles are on the server installed, does it crash predictable shortly after bootup or randomly?

The server has the Hyper-V role, domain controller, DNS, IIS. It seems to fail randomly. The bugcheck readout is below: + System - Provider [ Name] Microsoft-Windows-WER-SystemErrorReporting [ Guid] {ABCE23E7-DE45-4366-8631-84FA6C525952} [ EventSourceName] BugCheck - EventID 1001 [ Qualifiers] 16384 Version 0 Level 2 Task 0 Opcode 0 Keywords 0x80000000000000 - TimeCreated [ SystemTime] 2010-06-01T13:40:50.000000000Z EventRecordID 10009 Correlation - Execution [ ProcessID] 0 [ ThreadID] 0 Channel System Computer VIRTSERVER01 Security - EventData param1 0x00000101 (0x0000000000000019, 0x0000000000000000, 0xfffff88001c5d180, 0x0000000000000002) param2 C:\Windows\MEMORY.DMP param3 060110-18454-01

Hi, Are you using an Intel Xeon 5500 series processor-based computer? The hotfix KB975530 should help resolve the issue: Stop error message on an Intel Xeon 5500 series processor-based computer that is running Windows Server 2008 R2 and that has the Hyper-V role installed: "0x00000101 - CLOCK_WATCHDOG_TIMEOUT" http://support.microsoft.com/kb/975530 This posting is provided "AS IS" with no warranties, and confers no rights.

like joson says, 0x00000101 on a hyperv server is likely to be fixed with the hotfix linked

My processor is an Intel 3450. But I will try the hotfix anyway.

I was getting this on a Dell Vostro 430 running Windows 2008 R2 Datacenter edition with hyperv vms, whenever we RDP into an x64 vm, it would crash like this. I'll report back in a couple of days whether the hotfix worked on this platform..

The hotfix not only worked to stop the restarts but the server is just generally running much better. Eventhough the fix says it is for Intel 5500 processors it worked for my 3450.
