Win 2008 RC2 license
I installed Win 2008 RC2 a couple of weeks before the retail version was released. I am about to purchase licenses for Win 2008 and Terminal Services. As a result I have the following questions;1. Can I simply change the trial product key to a licensed product key from from a Full Package Product or Open Business license?2. How/Where are the TS licenses entered? (user cals)3. If this is not possible and I am forced to completely reinstall, is there a simple process for migrating all of my existing server preferences/user accounts/ TS settings etc.Thanks.

I don't see any reason why you would want to do that.
Pre-release versions of Windows Server 2008 will stop working after June 30th, 2008 regardless of their license.

In-place upgrading
It is possible to upgrade your Windows Server 2008 Release Candidate 2 (RC2) installation in-place to Windows Server 2008 RTM. (retail) as long as certain criteria are met: (not a full list, I'm sure)
Edition between your current installation and the RTM media match (both Standard, Enterprise, etc)
Architecture between your current installation and the RTM media match (both x86, x64 orIA64)
Your current installation is not a server core installation
Your current installation has a minimum of 14062 MB of free space available
Making a back-up of your current installation will provide you with a rollback scenario.
System State swapping
You could try to make a system state backup and install Windows Server 2008 RTM over your existing installation. You would choose to format your hard disk and delete your current installation in the process. After correct installation you would restore the System State backup to your new installation. I'm pretty sure this is unsupported and not tested, but it might be exactly what you're looking for. Rebuild the box on different hardware will provide you with a rollback scenario.

2. How/Where are the TS licenses entered? (user cals) You need to install a Terminal Services Licnensing Server. During the install, or afterward, you will communicate with the Licensing center to register the Terminal Services CALs that you have purchased. These are separate and in addition to the Windows Server CALs that you need. Windows Server CALs are simply licensing documents; there is no need to register them, but you must keep them in case you need proof of ownership. tgc

Thanks for the replies. Good to know that I can upgrade and not have to reconfigure everything. Is it possible to do the upgrade with an open business license or must the full retail product be purchased. Finally, Win 2008 is a fantastic product. Thanks for your help.

Oh, I nearly forgot. How do I install the licensing server? I cannot find this listed in the server roles manager. Terminal services is listed of course (and already installed), but I cant see where to add the Licensing role?(EDIT) I noticed that Licensing mode stated "not configured", selected properties, License per user and discover a licensing server automatically (which presumably is itself). Is that all that needs to be done?
