Win 8 client showing shared printer server as offline.
Hi, I have got a print server 2008 R 2 with clients as Xp,7,vista, and recently win 8 was added.the issue is Windows8 is showing as printer server offline. There are few fixes in forum for win7 and 2003 but if someone can advise a fix for Win8 then it will solve my problems. Thanks Vikas

There's no fix for Windows 8 as this is the first time we've heard it reported from that OS.

Do you have the following two fixes applied to the Print Server?

A network printer is displayed incorrectly as offline on a computer that is running Windows 7 or Windows Server 2008 R2

Hi Yezdicruizer,

Hi, I have not applied this fix as that is pertaining to win7 and server 2008 r2. I have connected the printer through TCP / IP ports for the time being leaving the shared queue in the system and it shows online now. Regards Yezdi

Hi Yzedi,

we have exact the same issue in our envoirment (Win 8 clients and a Win 2008 printserver). One of the patches above solved the issue for you?

Best regards

Hi Yezdicrusier,

I'm increasingly seeing the same issue with client PCs running Windows 8.

Have you tried to install the hotfix 2713128?

I realise it only states Windows 7 and Windows server 2008 R2, but would be interested to know if you've tried it and what the outcome was?

Ok Microsoft changed something last night and now we have the 'server offline' issue magically appearing. any fixes out there?     MS is so useless.

we noticed this issue recently. here is our observation,

1. windows 8 client (workgroup/other domain) shared printer will show it offline, but some time need to restrart the spooler service to fix, sometimes need to restart a few times. however connect directly to the printer IP as a local printer instead of shared from server, there is no such issue.

2. Windows 8 client (domain computer) looks like no such issue

3. Windows 8 clinet (Home group), will be the same as point 1

also we found, if the Mail app linked as windows login, the home group will got access denied.

hope this will help us to identify the issue.
