Windows2003 Networkprinters and Remote Desktop disrupted
Hello,
Since this morning we have a problem with one of our printservers (windows 2003 x64 Enterrprise Edition SP2). We were unable to print to anyone of the installed printers on the server (we could ping them). Also Remote Desktop did not work. I could reach
the remote services.msc. I restarted the PrintSpooler service and the attached TCP/IP Printer service. After that i was able to use RDP again. After logging in i started the both printer services. All printers came online and we were able to print.
But after a reboot we have the same issue. In the eventlog i only could find a warning regarding an WMI provider with an error code.
Does anyone know what the cause of this problem could be?

What has been changed recently ? any Patch, software or driver update on print servers ? I do not represent the organisation I work for, all the opinions expressed here are my own.

KB2655992
KB2698365
KB2691442
KB2718523
KB2719985

Hello,
Have you tried cleaning the C:\Windows\System32\spool\printers and C:\Windows\System32\spool\drivers folder?
Disable the Print Spooler service and delete the contents in the folders mentioned above.
Thanks
Zhang

SietseB,
I had an isue with two of my Windows 2003 Standard Servers. The solution that I did, which fixed the connectivity problems as described in your post. (Not being able to RDP into the box anymore, but able to ing it, and we had an in-house program
that stopped working off the Citrix farm.)
The solution is:
Uninstall KB2719985 / Reboot the server / Perform updates (during this process we left off KB 2719985) and installed KB968389, KB956744, KB948496, KB936357, KB925876, KB2718704, KB2718523,KB2698365,KB2695962,KB2691442,KB2655992,KB2633952-v2, KB2467659, KB2481109,
KB973825 and KB971029. / perform another reboot / finally re-install KB2719985 and reboot.
After the server comes back online you should be good. Let me know if this answers your problem.
