Windows 2008 R2 SP1 deployment
Hi, We will be deploying SP1 to windows 2008 r2 servers in our organization. We understand that Win2k8R2 SP1 has deployment options that allows us to install it silently with no restart and we need this since we have servers that must not be restarted. So I would like to know if there is really a need to restart the server after SP1 is installed or will we be able to make use of the new features of SP1 even without restarting our servers. For example, the dynamic memory allocation in Hyper-V, will we be able to use it righ away after SP1 is successfully installed on the Hyper-V Host. We really appreciate if anyone would clarify this for us. Thank you. ron

I think you can use the /norestart option but the service pack installation will not be complete until you do restart. http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?displaylang=en&id=269 I'd also recommend installing the system update readiness tool prior to the service pack installation. http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?id=14668 Regards, Dave Patrick .... Thanks Dave, I guess we really have no choice but to restart the servers after the upgrade. ron
