Windows Server 2003
Hi Meinolf,
I don't know too much about the AD topology because the previous IT Manager didn't leave documentation.
I know for sure it is not the DC, it's one of our servers inside the DC.

Hello,
to get an overview about the domain and installed DCs please upload the requested files from a healthy DC. That way we can find all DCs names and you can see if the machines exist and which of them they are.Best regards Meinolf Weber Disclaimer: This posting is provided "AS IS" with no warranties or guarantees , and confers no rights.

Hi,
I have a problem with my windows server 2003. One of my servers has been crashing a shutting off at 1am every sunday (full backup day Backup Exec 2010 R2). The domain controlled the errors that come up are 1058 and 1038, they happen through the day during
the whole week (not only when the backup is running). The entire log has red all over.
I've gone through every possible solution found online, nothing's helping.
I found an empty group policy in my AD applied to this server which when I tried to open said it was empty. Should I disable this policy to fix the issue?

Hello,
which server role does the Windows server 2003 have and what applications are installed?
Is that server domain controller? If yes please upload the following files:
ipconfig /all >c:\ipconfig.txt [from each DC/DNS Server]
dcdiag /v /c /d /e /s:dcname >c:\dcdiag.txt
repadmin /showrepl dc* /verbose /all /intersite >c:\repl.txt ["dc* is a place holder for the starting name of the DCs if they all begin the same (if more then one DC exists)]
dnslint /ad /s "DCipaddress" (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/321045)
As the output will become large, DON'T
post them into the thread, please use Windows Sky Drive (skydrive.live.com) [with open access!] and add the link from it here. Also the /e in dcdiag scans the complete forest, so better run it on COB.Best regards Meinolf Weber Disclaimer: This posting is provided "AS IS" with no warranties or guarantees , and confers no rights.

I've had this problem in the past and I know it might sound remedial, but Have you run a chkdsk /f on all the drives? Sometimes backups will BSOD a server if the drive is corrupted..

Thank you David, I had that in mind, but I didn't know if I had to do it for all the servers or the domain controllers. There are no problems with the other servers it's only with one of them. Should I run it only on the problematic one?

Hi
Of course, run it only on the problematic one.
For details:
How to perform disk error checking
Please try to refer the following links to troubleshoot event
ID 1058,1030
Client computers record Event ID 1030 and Event ID 1058 when DFS is not started
Errors 1054,
1030 and 1058
Group policies are not applied the way you expect; "Event ID 1058" and "Event ID
1030" errors
If the issue persist, please
download and Install Debugging Tools to
troubleshoot the issue.
Unfortunately, debugging is beyond what we can do in the forum. A suggestion would be to contact Microsoft Customer Service and Support (CSS) via telephone so that
a dedicated Support Professional can assist with your request. Please be advised that contacting phone support will be a charged call.
To obtain the phone numbers for specific technology request please take a look at the web site listed below:

Hope this helps!

So, I ran the chkdsk /f first and there were no bad sectors. I'll see tonight what happens, I found that backup exec 2010 was running and backing up SQL data bases so I did a little research and found out a place within the application where you could
check this option: Clear the error and continue backing up.
After checking that option the server didn't shut down, BUT the errors related to the Sys Vol keep showing up.
Thank you for all your help!!

Hello,
as far as i can see the output looks ok from the DCs.
What i am not clear about is if you have done a restore with BE or not on the problem DC?Best regards Meinolf Weber Disclaimer: This posting is provided "AS IS" with no warranties or guarantees , and confers no rights.
