Windows Server 2008 R2
I have a new Windows Server 2008 R2 Dell Poweredge 310 server - I have statically configured the NIC to the same network as the existing 2003 server that we are replacing - It will eventually be the DC , DNS and IIS roles are active. It is a simple client
- server network with 6 clients. I am prepping the machine off line and have s firewall appliance simulating the production environment and neither the firewall or the server are running DHCP so far everything is static
The WAN is Time Warner static IP
The LAN is static private address scheme 192.168.111. x
I configure the DNS to have two forwarders - local TWC 209.18.47.61 and x.x.x.62
The Server NIC points to itself as DNS
When I attempt to download to the server download speeds accorinding to two web based tools show the speed @ .5 to 1 Mbps
When I download on the laptop attached to the same switch I achieve speeds of 6 to 7 Mbps and we have an 8 Mbps contract with Time Warner
I have set up these simple networks hundreds of times and am truly frustrated with this situation. I looked through several forums and it appears that others have encountered this slow download scenario but I can't seem to find any solution
I am willing to give more detail if needed. I have been through the DNS 101 steps over and over to make sure that it is correct.
One more wierd anomaly - If I plug the NIC directly into my production network 192.168.10.x and allow the server to get an address via DHCP it will download at 6 to 7 Mbps

How do the physical connections look? I've run into issues a few times where certain devices won't autonegotiate properly so you run into speeds like you're talking about due to duplex mismatch. Is that a possibility here since if you change the physical
connections around it seems to work at expected speeds?Doug Kentner

Hello,
it is not recommended to multi-home a domain controller nor to run IIS on a DC, this breaks security to a mess. Multi-homing result in DNS problems in the domain with slow logon, GPOs are not applied correct and still some more. Details about in:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/157025
http://msmvps.com/blogs/acefekay/archive/2009/08/17/multihomed-dcs-with-dns-rras-and-or-pppoe-adapters.aspx
Please post an unedited ipconfig /all from the client and the server so we can verify some settings.Best regards

Thanks - I may not have been clear and I aplologize _ I did not multi-home the server - The address of the server is static 192.168.111.55 and that is the only IP assisgned to the NIC. In DNS I added the Time Warner servers as forwarders
The firewall is 192.168.111.1
The WAN On the firewall is one of the IP addresses in our Time Warner static block.
IIS is being used by TrendMicro for the OfficeScan product that is the only reason IIS is active

Thank you for all the input - the source of the issue turned out to be the NIC software - The Dell technician noticed an issue with the Control Suite - So we did a number of firmware and software updates and it cleared up the issues
Thanks Again
