Windows Server R2 64-Bit Service Pack 2
Hi there. I hope someone can help. I've got two Windows 2008 R2 64-Bit servers running. Both are fairly new, one is a DC with DNS on and the other runs SQL 2008. Today I installed Window 2008 Server Service Pack 2 to the server with SQL on which went fine. At the same time I had about 7 PCs in the office connecting to the updates site and installing any critical updates fine. However, when I go to install SP2 on the other 2008 server, I get the message "This service pack does not apply to the version of Windows running on this computer". And when I go to run the auto updater program from Control Panel, I get now on both servers (this one and the one running SQL) error 8024402C. Given that obviously all the settings were fine as I have installed updates on both servers this way very recently, web access is fine, other PCs on the network are updating fine, I am at a loss as to what to try to get this working. I hate having machines that do not work properly on something as critical as this. Any help would be very gratefully recieved. Many thanks Bob

The SP2 service pack only applies to Windows Server 2008, it does not apply to the Windows Server 2008 R2 servers. They are different operating systems.Visit: anITKB.com, an IT Knowledge Base.

For the 8024402C error resolution, refer to this Microsoft article. Otherwise the specified service pack is applied on WS2008 and not WS2008 R2.
