Hello, I'm unable to install IE9 with Windows Update or in stand alone on my Win2008 R2 SP1 test servers. It ends up with an error and create a link on the desktop. So I'm doing it through Windows Update because I want all of the update to be installed, but I need to install IE9 or I cannot have access to the other ,update do I ? Well, on the other two servers for wich IE9 could install properly there was a lot of updates to install after that. I do not understand, the reason, nothing very special is installed on the failing servers, installations are all from same USB key source, 2008 R2 SP1 from Technet, activated - all of them. I need to finish Windows Update and install IE9 on all my servers. We are behind a proxy, but 2 server in exact same network configuration could install IE9 without problem and not the other. Done in Safemode. Nothing changed. Also tried to install the "Readiness Tool" that can optimize Windows Update, fix from May 2012. Still nothing. Somone provided me a full package with a separate language pack in .MSU format, tried to install all, nothing magic happened, it fails all the time on 3 of my 5 servers.

Try following... Reboot the server once Delete the temporary files from C:\Windows\TEMP\ & C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\Download\Install folders Download the IE installer from following link Windows Internet Explorer 9 for Windows 7 64-bit Edition and Windows Server 2008 R2 64-bit Edition http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=23332 Disable Windows Firewall and AV temporarily Before installing IE, disable Internet on the Server (if applicable) Execute the IE installer from elevated cmd ( run as Admin ) Hope that would work.Regards, Santosh I do not represent the organisation I work for, all the opinions expressed here are my own. No sorry this is not working : - downloaded the package from the URL your specified (36MB nearly) - rebooted in safe mode, cleaned all files from C:\Windows\TEMP\ & C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\Download\Install folders - rebooted again in normal mode, went to advanced firewall properties, checked that all profiles were disabled - no antivirus is installed on the machine - UAC is disabled - launched the installation packaged from an elevated CMD Same failure. While installing, the setup wizard ask me to close Windows Explorer automatically. I'm doing all this from local console, not RDP. Thanks,

I'll create a support ticket @ MS in this case, because Windows Update is blocked if IE9 is not installed.
